Cultivating Your Finest Fiesta

Cultivating Your Finest Fiesta

I love everything about Hispanic culture. From the richness of its history to the vibrancy of its colors and traditions – there are endless ideas when throwing a Spanish-themed party!

Spanish culture is known for bold colors and design, so have fun mixing different patterns, textures, lace, fringe, and papel picado to your decor. Red is a popular color found in many areas of Spanish culture from red chili peppers to the infamous red bullfighting in Madrid – and it makes for a beautiful motif in Spanish-themed parties.

Our Perfectly Timed Events team recently hosted an upscale fiesta and used the color red in nearly every aspect of the design. The results were absolutely stunning. From a full red rose photo wall to the rich red table coverings and sangria, this party was drenched in details ranging from hand-painted tile coasters to custom-made nameplates and party favor boxes filled with dark almond chocolate.

When guests walked through the doors, they were welcomed by Darlene the Donkey who was guarding a basket of red roses with custom tags that stated, "Feliz Cumpleaños, Veronica!" Each guest would take a rose and offer it to the birthday girl before entering the party. (That was until Darlene got hungry for a snack and began eating all the roses!) *LOL* Outside, guests were able to mingle and meet Big Tex the Alpaca for a fun photo-op. Big Tex is a favorite returning PTE party friend and got a little jealous that Darlene was getting so much attention with all the roses and started making noises as if to say, "Hey, I'm here too!!"

Whether a donkey is guarding (eating) them or not, flowers are one thing to never skimp on at a party. We incorporated fiesta-themed florals everywhere we could – in large vases for table centerpieces, baskets of bouquets near the entrance, and even designed hanging flower strands for a beautiful outdoor photo-op. (Shout-out to our florist, Petal Party and Co. This was our first time working with Tammy, and you were amazing!)

The Spanish culture is also known for having great food, large families, and even larger family gatherings including friends, friends of friends, and neighbors where no one is a stranger and everyone has a seat at the table. (And, everyone wants to because the food is delicious!) When having a Spanish-themed party, the cuisine is key with chips, salsa, mole, enchiladas, tacos, guac, rice, beans – and salads filled with shredded cheese, jalapeños, bell peppers, and onions! (Yum!)

Growing up in a Hispanic household not only taught me about great food – it also taught me the importance of hospitality (and is likely one of the biggest reasons I'm an event planner today). At every family gathering, I would always notice my mother looking around to make sure everyone had a plate of food and something to drink before she would sit down. When guests came to our home, she would offer snacks and drinks just in case they were too shy to ask themselves. Learning to be hospitable is something that I'm proud to have learned from my own mother and something I make sure to incorporate into all of our events today (Spanish-themed or not!).

Spanish culture is full of vibrant colors, rich heritage, and traditional Latin music – and your Spanish-themed party should be too. As the world begins to open up again, let’s toast to many more celebrations with our loved ones ahead! *Cheers!*
